Gemma Bigg - Biathle/Triathle/1500m
Gemma Bigg is a Biathle (Run, swim, run) and Triathle (Shoot, swim, runx4) athlete from Basingstoke training with Wessex Wyverns Modern Pentathlon Club. Furthermore, Gemma runs 1500m and XC for Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletics club.
Gemma only took up Biathle and Triathle 3 years ago and since has become reigning British champion for the past two years. Gemma came 2nd in the individual and mixed relay Biathle European Championships then the
following day becoming European Champion in individual and mixed relay in Madeira 2019. With the aim of becoming World Champion in the near
Gemma has previous run cross country at county level for Hampshire as well as participating in further distances such as Marathon with a best of 3 hours 28 and achieving a 5th and 7th in the Marathon of U20. Gemma more recently ran an 88 minute half marathon which qualifies her a championship start in the London marathon if this was wanted.
Gemma had a successful 2019 further exceeding her goals in all distances from 800m to half marathon as well as Biathle and Triathle. For the 2020 she is aiming to focus on further improve her 1500m time and compete in the BUCS outdoors and to attend the World Biathle/Triathle Championships in Germany at the end of August.
Gemma graduated from St Marys University with a BSc in Sports Rehabilitation and is currently studying BSc in Physiotherapy at Southampton University, which she finds useful in expanding her knowledge of the body, benefiting her in training as well as recovery as she has a deeper understanding and skill set.
Gemma in her free time loves to bake and spend time with family & friends. She enjoys walking or running with her two border collies Misti and Bella. She also loves to travel and try all the local delicacies.
