James is a middle distance athlete who competes in distances from 400m to 10 miles on the road, but specialises in the 800m. In 2015 James got his first 2 senior GB caps, representing his country at both the Glasgow Indoor International and the European Indoor Championships. In 2016 James ran an Olympic qualifying standard of 1.45.96, which was unfortunately too late for selection. In 2017 James represented Great Britain three times. In January 2017 James was part of the winning GB team at the Great Edinburgh International XC relay. After running a seasons best of 1.46.40, James was selected to represent GB at the European Team Championships in Lille, finishing third. Despite some mid-season health issues James managed to run a mile pb of 4.03.26 before making the semi-final of the World University Games in Taiwan over 800m.

Interesting Facts About James:
In 2017 James completed his PhD research into the physical activity habits of Masters Highland Games athletes. He is currently a full time lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy at Glasgow Caledonian University. He is therefore used to logging 70-mile training weeks around sometimes 50 hour working weeks. Often his legs hurt when giving 2 hour lectures. James was fortunate enough to receive a grant from Sir Alex Ferguson in order to fund his participation in the 2017 World University Games. James is also sponsored by Asics and he loves to log miles in a pair of Asics Gel Cumulus!
